What Kindness Means 

When every detail of what you taught has been forgotten, enthusiasm, encouragement and kindness will remain.

 

Thank you for never being sarcastic - the thing that baffles and bewilders a child.

 

A good techer gives the best job - like feeding the fish or watering the plants -to the saddest person.

 

A good teacher remembers being small - and understands the terrors and the sadness, the excitements and the joys of the children in the class.

 

A good teacher knows when you are very sad - even if you haven't said anything at all, and lets you know you can tell her / him all about it - if you want to. 

 

If  a teacher really cares for her / his class it spreads.

A special welcome to all our new students, particularly Junior Infants who have started 'big school'

Looking forward to a good year ahead.

We at Scoil Chaitríona Junior aim to create a safe, secure school environment that focuses on the child's development and learning, embracing individuality, socialisation and communication.

Reposing tomorrow July 29th in the funeral home beside Maree Church, Oranmore from 6 to 8 pm. Removal at 8pm to Maree Church.

Funeral Mass on Wednesday at 12 noon in Maree Church.

Burial afterwards in Renville Cemetery, Oranmore. 

May she Rest in Peace.

SAD NEWS

 

It is with deep regret that Scoil Chaitríona heard of the passing of our Deputy Principal, Mary Browne on Sunday, July 27th 2014.

Mary taught in Scoil Chaitríona for almost 40 years and will be sadly  missed by our pupils, staff and the Renmore community.

She was a perfect lady, a great teacher and a constant support to colleagues and parents of the school.

Her kindness and understanding touched the hearts of all who knew her.

A rock of strength, Mary was capable of seeing the bright side of every situation.

Her smile assured pupils they were in safe hands while in her care and her teaching brought a wide spectrum to her classroom. 

She had a special interest in gardening and much of the planting around the school was done by her, whether it was daffodils, shrubs or trees. Any spare minute was spent planting or encouraging others to do likewise. 

Mary was involved in the choice of the newly planted trees at the front of the school and was keen to see that they were our native species. Her departure from Scoil Chaitríona Junior was premature but her memory will live on in our love of nature that she was so keen to cultivate.

It was a privilege to have known Mary.

May she rest in peace and may God comfort her husband, Richard, and her three daughters, Karen, Georgina and Claire.

These are just some of the things pupils and teachers got up to during the year. 

Scoil Chaitrona Junior not only focuses on Literacy and Numeracy but also on the aesthetic, physical, social, personal and spiritual development of its pupils.

Well done to all the staff and have a well deserved summer break.

Thank you to Scoil Chaitríona Junior Parents' Association for their support during the year. 

Pupils enjoyed learning yard games from their mams and playing together in the school yard.

We especially enjoyed the coffee mornings and we look forward to their continued support next year.

The school garden got a huge make over this year. Thanks to parents, grandparents and 'The Men's Shed' who helped out. The raised beds are now flourishing with potatoes, kale, peas, radishes and even a pumpkin.

School Readiness Programme

 

School Readiness Programme for Parents of our Junior Infants starting school in September will be run in the school hall on Wednesday, June 11th and Thursday,  June 12th from 9.30 to 11.30 am. Parents will have received notice of the day they are to attend.

This programme is for parents only and is delivered Mary McHugh from Galway City Partnership.

Latest news from the Principal

Lego League

Mr Carleton's and Miss Connolly's 1st Classes displayed fantastic Lego Projects at the Lego League in the Raddison on Wednesday the 4th of June.
Well done to all the pupils and teachers who put great work into the projects. They presented their designs and discussed the positive impact their projects could have on our environment.
We look forward to hearing more from our young scientists in the future.

Parents Coffee Morning

Parents Association held their end of year coffee morning on Friday the 6th of June. Parents chatted about the great success of their introduction to yard games for 1st and 2nd classes.
New parents are always welcome for a cup of tea or coffee and share ideas. See notice board outside the P.E. hall for updates.
A sincere thank you to all the parents for their support throughout the school year. We look forward to working together in the coming year.

Welcome to  the Principal's News Update

Public Meeting Held in the Clayton Hotel on Tuesday, May 13th 2014.

If the attendance of city council candidates at the recent meeting held in the Clayton Hotel held by Renmore School is a measure of public interest, then the plans to redevelop the school campus will certainly come to fruition sooner rather than later. 

The Campus Redevelopment Steering Committee presented a comprehensive and compelling argument for the replacement of the permanent and temporary structures and the redevelopment of the campus.

Citing details of some of the history of the school, Malachy Thompson Chairperson of Scoil Chatriona Junior, demonstrated that the current building fabric was past end of life and must be dealt with in the near future, otherwise it will impinge on our ability to continue the excellent service for which the school is renowned and widely respected.

Patricia Coleman, Principal, Junior School, gave a comprehensive overview of the demographics and catchment area, paying particular attention to population growth and increasing enrolments in the school. Remore is much more than a school for the immediate community, but supports a wider hinterland as a centre of excellence for children with a learning disability.

Michael Carroll, Chairperson, Senior School, outlined the financial impact that the building is having on the operation of the school, and indicated that a favourable return on investment could be achieved that would be cost beneficial as well as enhancing the educational experience of the pupils.

Marianne Brady, Principal, Senior School, outlined the activities undertaken in the past as well as demonstrating through photographs how the school would benefit from investment.

The following candidates for the city council election were in attendance:
Declan McDonald, Margo Kelly, Conor Burke, Alan Cheevers, Mike Crowe, Terry O' Flaherty,  Noel Larkin and Mairead Farrell.  
All expressed their strong support for the project, which the steering committee acknowledged and appreciated, stating that they would be delighted to avail of the additional support that they can bring to this endeavour.
